Banu Cingöz Ulu is an associate professor of social psychology at the Middle East Technical University, Department of Psychology. She completed her PhD at York University (Toronto, Canada). Her research focuses on the effects of collective identities—including national, ethnic, cultural, and gender identities—on individual well-being, policy support, and intergroup relations. In recent years, she has been particularly examining self-silencing in response to discrimination based on various ideological, religious, ethnic, and queer identities, and the relationship between notions of morality and minority-related issues and the justification of violence.
